Disenfranchised Grief – Exhibit

150 150 Art Design PLAY

During his last year as Dean of the Divinity School, Dr. Gillepsie approached Art+Design chair, Terrill Thomas about showcasing student work in their hallway. Some months later, Dr. Gillepsie retired to attend to some serious health issues. Thomas approached the new Dean, Dr. Ninow with the concept. He agreed to go back to the faculty and ask them for a concept that the photography students could respond to. They came back with “Disenfranchised Grief”, a photographic challenge, to capture and honor the types of grief in society that go unrecognized. Every student, no matter what their major, responded with honest and powerful imagery. Many were moved to tears during the reception. This exhibit will be the first of an annual photographic exhibit in the Divinity school. This type of cross discipline collaboration is something that would not have happened in an all arts school.

Joseph Ramos from the student run paper/website CriterionNow, was on hand to document the event. You can view the full gallery here: Disenfranchised Photography Exhibit on CriterionNow >>
